Apple gets fined $12 million in Italy for its water resistance claims

Image
Apple has just been fined €10 million (about $12 million) in Italy because of the way it advertises water resistance for its devices. Italy's antitrust authority doesn't like how "aggressive and misleading" Apple's commercial practices are, regarding its iPhones and their water resistance ratings. The regulator said in a statement that Apple advertises iPhones as water resistant without clarifying that they are only so under certain circumstances. It added that the company is tricking its customers through its disclaimers, which say that phones aren't covered by warranty in case of damage from liquids. Customers are also not provided support when their phones are damaged by water and other liquids, which feels misleading if you remember the water resistance claims. Apple declined to comment on the matter. We're half baffled by the fact that some regulator somewhere only now figured this out, but on the other hand it's probably impossible for companie

True Wireless Stereo: The race to be truly wireless

Image
The once-premium true wireless stereo (TWS) market in India is growing, as smartphone brands fortify their presence With this segment becoming intensely competitive, differentiation could become tougher for brands. From being mere accompaniments to smartphones, headphones and earphones have come a long way, and also shed some baggage over time. In the work-from-home and study-from-home scenarios, this category has seen huge growth in 2020, especially led by new technologies such as true wireless stereo or TWS, first popularised by Apple AirPods. TWS earpieces do not have a connector and come with charging cases. According to Counterpoint Research, shipment of TWS devices in India grew 656% during April-June 2020, with Realme,  Xiaomi  and JBL accounting for about 57% of the market. Shilpi Jain, research analyst at Counterpoint Research, estimates that the overall shipment for TWS devices in 2020 would cross 10 million. Apart from companies such as Boat Lifestyle, Vivo, Oppo, Samsung,

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro pass FCC certification

Image
Just a few days ago we found out Samsung’s next TWS earphones will be called Galaxy Buds Pro thanks to   listings   on the Indonesian Telecom certification authority, China’s 3C agency and Korea’s NRRA. Now the Galaxy Buds Pro bearing the same SM-R190 model number appeared in the FCC database, revealing we’re inching closet to their release. Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro case schematics The upcoming pair of wireless earbuds is expected to build on the Galaxy Buds+ design instead of the more recent bean-shaped Galaxy Buds Live. The listing gives confirmation that the new Buds Pro will hold a 500mAh charge in their carrying case. The schematics of the case reveal a similar design to that of the Galaxy Buds Live case which also held a 500 mAh charge. Past rumors suggest we’re also expecting an improved ANC system this time around.   Galaxy Buds Pro listing on FCC database According to speculations, we’ll see the Galaxy Buds Pro debut in January alongside the Galaxy S21 series smartphones.

Fresh Galaxy A32 5G renders reveal sleek design and a mysterious sensor

Last week the unannounced   Galaxy A32 5G   was spotted in a   handful of renders   originating from a third-party case manufacturer. The images offered a sneak preview but the device was largely covered by a protective case. However, a new gallery of Galaxy A32 5G renders have emerged from  @OnLeaks via Voice   today and this time around they show the phone from all angles without a protective case covering the design. First things first, the Galaxy A32 5G looks very appealing in our eyes as it offers a unique design even for a Samsung phone. It looks like the camera sensors are not enclosed in a so-called camera hump but instead the vertically-stacked lenses protrude – by just 1 mm according to the source – from the phone’s back panel individually. Next to the three rear-facing cameras there’s an LED flash and a mysterious fourth sensor whose purpose is unknown. Infinity-V, plastic back panel and a metal frame The back of the device is reportedly made of plastic. The renders show a

vivo X50 Pro+ review

Image
Introduction The vivo X50 trio has been around for a while, but the flagship vivo X50 Pro+ has been eluding the public since its announcement. While the regular Pro bragged with gimbal-like stabilization and all-round package, this Pro+ version shifts the focus towards performance and photo quality. The X50 Pro+ upgrades the X50 with an even more fluid 120Hz screen, a faster and flagship-grade Snapdragon 865 chip, speedier storage, and, of course, a bunch of camera sensors of higher quality. The AMOLED screen remains of the same size and resolution, its refresh rate is now 120Hz, up from 90Hz on the X50 Pro. The Snapdragon high-end bump is surely a welcome addition, but we won't lie, it's the camera that intrigued us the most. The X50 Pro was a versatile shooter and impressed us with its gimble module, but we weren't blown away by its photo prowess. Now, vivo tries to up its camera game with a brand new sensor for the main shooter - Samsung's 50MP ISOCELL Plus GN1, co

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G review

Image
Introduction This one's for the fans! Or for the chemistry students with a penchant for iron alloys? It's not 'lite,' that's for sure. This is the Galaxy S20 FE 5G (or Fan Edition). The latest member of the S20 family comes with some spec changes to meet a lower price point, while still maintaining important bits to qualify for the S-series badge. One of those is the high-end chipset, and that's a good point to clarify that not all FEs are the same - there is a 5G-capable version and an LTE-capped one. The 4G-only model follows the usual regional differentiation with some parts of the world getting the Exynos 990 while others have their FEs equipped with the Snapdragon 865. On the other hand, the 5G model is Snapdragon-only this time, regardless of locale. It's this version that we're reviewing, though we may be dropping the '5G' when referring to the phone for the remainder of this review. Placed in between the S20 and S20+ in terms of screen

OnePlus 8T review

Image
Introduction Launching at €599, the OnePlus 8T is shaping up as an excellent premium mid-ranger with a slew of flagship features - a 120Hz Fluid AMOLED, the latest Snapdragon 865 chip, a promising quad-camera with improved low-light performance, stereo speakers, and probably OnePlus best achievement yet - a larger battery with blazing-fast Warp Charge at 65W. At the company's fall event this year, a Pro model was a notable absentee. This is because the company keeps the 8 Pro as its ongoing flagship device, and it won't be getting a refresh until 2021. The OnePlus 8 needed the update, so we won't object to this strategic move. We doubt many OnePlus 8 owners are thinking of switching, but it makes the two current offerings that much more desirable for anyone in the market for a new phone. If we compare it with the OnePlus 8, the 8T is getting a 120Hz OLED vs. 90Hz. At the same time, its main camera gets a brighter aperture for the main camera, an even wider ultra-wide lens
